Joan LeRoy Hickam, 76, Olathe, KS, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Home, Olathe, KS.
A gathering to celebrate Joan’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the home of her daughter. Joan was born May 20, 1935 in Independence, MO the daughter of Louis Fred and Mary E. (Whitmire) Hartman. She was a 1953 graduate of Northeast High School and worked for the MO Dept. of Revenue for 10 years. Joan married Dana S. Hickam. Together they lived overseas in numerous places, including Europe and Japan, until Dana retired from the Air Force. While living abroad, Joan enjoyed learning about the culture and used what she learned to cook exotic dishes. Joan was an avid reader of European and English History. She enjoyed the holidays and was known to keep Christmas decorations up all year. She collected antiques and was a talented artist. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Dana S. Hickam, in 2004.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann Holmes and husband Geoff of Olathe, KS; granddaughter, Jessica Mann; and brother, Jim Hartman, Argyle, TX. The family would like to thank Joan’s nursing team at the Good Samaritan Home, and Tammi with Olathe Hospice, for their love and support.
