Susan Hightower

February 25, 1957 — January 19, 2011

Susan Aileen Hightower, 53, Excelsior Springs, MO went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 19, 2011.

A Celebration of Susan’s Life will be at 10:00 AM Monday, January 24, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or ASPCA.

Susan was born February 25, 1957 in Vandalia, IL the daughter of Roy C. and Freda R. (Ragan) Stanger. She was a graduate of Fort Osage High School. Susan had worked for Harmon Electronics, Livers Bronze and recently Hallmark Cards for 15 years. She was a member of the Atherton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the Pastor Parish Relations coordinator. Susan had volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital. She enjoyed being outdoors, antiques, and she always offered a helping hand to those in need.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Roy Stanger and her uncle, Ebb Stanger.

Survivors include her loving husband, Terry Hightower, mother, Freda Stanger; sisters, Viola Sopher and Barbara J. Sopher and her husband James all of Independence; father in law, Don Hightower of Elkhorn; nephews, Jason Sopher and his wife Tara and Christopher Sopher; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, family members and her two cats, Brother and Sissy.
