Nellie Belle Hirst

Nellie B. Hirst, 97, of Independence, MO, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Rosewood Health Center. Graveside services will be 11:15 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11:00 a.m. Thursday at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Nellie was born July 9, 1909 in Parsons, KS to Ira G. and Ethel May (Phillips) Whipple. Mrs. Hirst was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. She had worked for the government during WWII and then went on to retire from Montgomery Ward & Co. Nellie is survived by nephews Kenneth Holsworth of Independence, MO, Robert Westwood of Tallahassee, FL; niece Helen Bennnett of Covina, CA; 3 step-granddaughters Beth Khan, Alice King and Karen Jensen; 9 step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hirst was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother; 2 sisters; by her first husband Bert Canterbury and second husband Floyd Hirst.
