Dora Jean Hix, 72, Blue Springs, MO passed away Monday, January 30, 2012 after a 14 year battle with Alzheimer’s.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St,; Independence, MO 64055. A memorial service to celebrate Dora’s life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dora was born October 26, 1939 in Chariton, IA the daughter of Merlon and Imogene. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from CMSU and her Master’s Degree from Webster University, both in elementary education. Dora was employed with the Blue Springs School District for 26 years as a 2nd grade teacher, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church. Dora enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dwight, her sister, Norma, and her parents.
Survivors include her loving husband Dean Hix of 31 years; daughters, Julie Magel and husband Steve, Jill Johnston and husband Michael, and Janet Ferguson and partner Sharon DuBois; grandchildren, Jennifer Montgomery and husband Jared, Dawn Adamczyk and husband Josh and Madeline Salley and husband Nick; great grand daughter Brooklyn Adamczyk, numerous nieces, nephews and family, and her loving caregiver, Anita Hill.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association; Preferred Hospice; or Blue Springs Education Foundation.
