Rose Ellen Hodson Stine, 94, of Independence, MO, passed away on Friday, January 29th at The Kansas City Hospice House.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5th from 6-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO.
There will be a private graveside service.
Rose Ellen was born July 22, 1921, to Bert A. DeLong and Cynthia Belle (Logeman) DeLong on their family farm in northern Missouri. She married Eugene H. Hodson on April 12, 1941 and they made their home in Independence. Following Gene’s sudden death in 1965, Rose Ellen met and married Harvey L. Stine on July 3, 1969 and they were married for over 35 years until his death in 2005.
Rose Ellen is also preceded in death by her brother, Bert A. DeLong, Jr. and her son-in-law, Larry W. Binnicker. She is survived by siblings, JoAnn (DeLong) White, John DeLong and Gerard DeLong. She leaves behind children Larry E. Hodson (Jean) and Susan R. Hodson Binnicker as well as, four grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Paul and Matthew, and eight great grandchildren.
Educated at several rural schools in northern Missouri, Rose Ellen was a graduate of Tekonsha High School in Michigan. She was a gifted artist who taught painting classes for many years. She loved to travel and worked as a travel agent and manager of Carpentour's Travel Agency located in The Blue Ridge Mall. She planned and escorted many tours of the United States and Europe. She instilled her love of travel in her children and grandchildren taking them on many family trips including tours of Europe and Hawaii.
She was a lifelong member of Community of Christ and attended the New Walnut Park Congregation for more than 75 years.
Her family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care provide to Rose Ellen by her caregivers from Home Instead and the doctors and nurses of Kansas City Hospice and The Kansas City Hospice House.
