Genevieve Collette Hogan, 81, Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church; 600 N. Liberty St. Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. A brief liturgical service will be said at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Mary’s Pantry, where she devoted a day a week volunteering.
Genevieve was born February 19, 1928 in Gary, IN the daughter of Michael John and Anna (Baranko) Horkavi. She was employed with Honeywell as a machinist, retiring in 1991. Genevieve was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the Altar and Rosary Society and was a member of the St. Mary’s Quilters Group. She loved to travel, working in her yard, help anyone that she could, was an avid recycler and made the best German Chocolate Cake EVER.
Genevieve was united in marriage to John David Hogan on August 27, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include her children and grandchildren, Pat Hogan and his wife Cathy of Raytown, MO and their son Nick; David Hogan and his wife Nicki of Blue Springs, MO and their children, John, Sarah, Emily and Michelle; Jim Hogan of Kansas City, MO and his children Jamie, Anna and Laura; Mary Hogan of Boulder, CO; Dan Hogan and his wife Cheryl of Boulder, CO and their children Julia and Brice; Margaret Hogan of Kansas City, MO; Katie Van Horn and her husband Bob of Independence, MO and their children Genny and Chris and grand puppies, Minnie and Pennie; Chuck Hogan and his wife Natalie of Topeka, KS and their children Andrea, Erica and Joel; and Barbara Milam of Atlanta, GA and her children Jake, Holly and Alex. Seven great grandchildren. Her sisters, Irene Keserich of Merrillville, IN; Therese and her husband Paul of Naperville, IL; brother Francis Horkavi and his wife Patty of Barrington, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
