Ronald Leon Holmes, Sr., 68 of Independence, MO passed away, Monday, March 16, 2015 at his residence. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Interment services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church, 103 East St., Sharpsburg, IA. with inurnment following in the Bedford City Cemetery in Bedford, IA. Close friends and family are invited to a dinner at 5:30 pm. on Tuesday, March 24 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 11424 E. 24 Hwy., Sugar Creek, MO. In Lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations.
Ron was born October 14, 1946 in Maryville, MO to Ivan and Edythe (Ledgerwood) Holmes. He was very active in Scout Troop 46 as a youth, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Ron was a life-long tradesman, working as a pressman for Jack-Bilt Printing and as a general laborer for Deutz-Allis, AGCO Corporation, and Antione's Seed Co. He worked as a machinist in his later years for North American Safety Valve Corporation until his retirement in 2013. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a former member of the United Steelworkers of America. Ron was an avid Sprint Car racing and motorsports fan, enjoyed repairing vehicles, visiting family in Iowa, going fishing and bowling, and spending time with his grandchildren. His last day was spent in the park flying kites with his grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Jon C. Holmes. Survivors include; a son, Ronald L. Holmes, Jr. and his wife Amy, grandsons Cameron and Evan Holmes of Warrensburg, MO: a daughter, Christine Jacobs, grandsons Daltin and Hunter Jacobs and Taylor Culp of Independence, MO, granddaughter Brianna Hefley and her husband Jeff of Oak Grove, MO: an older brother, Donald Holmes and his wife Judy of Lee’s Summit, MO, and a younger sister, Connie Combs of Independence, MO.
