Donald Holst

Donald E. Holst, 79, of Independence, MO courageously was released from a body that failed him in the end on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center to be reunited with his Heavenly Father and a host of family, friends and loved ones who passed on before him. He will be missed deeply by loved ones left behind and many friends who enjoyed his bright, fun-loving and always there to help approach to life. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Village Heights Community of Christ, 1009 Farview Dr, Independence, MO. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Private graveside services at Mound Grove Cemetery. Don was born April 8, 1930 in rural Quasqueton, IA., and was the oldest child of Harvey and Mabel (Petersen) Holst. He retired from Ford Motor Co in 1992 after 28 ½ years of dedicated service. He has been a member of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church since 1950 and currently attends the Sesquehanna Restoration Group. Don is survived by his wife of 59 loving and devoted years, Mava (Heide) Holst; daughter Karen Noble and husband Stan; son Calvin Holst and wife Paulette; grandchildren Kyle and Marcus Noble, Brian Holst, Israel and Daniel Gillen; five great-grandchildren; sisters Lillian Erpelding, Hazel Rivers, Charlotte Hahn and husband Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Holst, who died at birth. The family suggests memorial contributions to Powell Gardens in memory of his love for flowers and gardening, or The American Heart Association.
