Johanna M. Hooper, 74, of Independence, MO passed away July 11, 2015 due to complications of a stroke. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Johanna was born March 25, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to Kelly and Mary (Mangiaracina) Bonavia. She retired from The Jones Store, where she made lasting friendships. Those friends gathered regularly for years, spending hours visiting and laughing heartily, even in the week of Johanna’s death. Johanna found comfort and enjoyment at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, where she attended Mass regularly, where she often stopped in for quiet prayer during the day, and where she volunteered. Johanna’s greatest joy was time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mom and grandma. She was the biggest cheerleader in each of their lives. Johanna brought so much fun into life and always thought of creative ways to decorate and celebrate her family’s occasions. Johanna was known by the sound of her laughter, and her laughter will be greatly missed. In 2012, Johanna was a kidney transplant recipient. That generous gift from an unknown donor’s family meant an immensely improved quality of life for Johanna and her family. In lieu of flowers, Johanna’s family suggests donations to the National Kidney Foundation. Johanna is survived by her children, Michael and Kathy Biagioli, Carla Hooper and Amy Ridgeway, Michael and Brenda Hooper, Suzie and Kevin Huff, John and Amy Hooper; grandchildren, Andrea and Julia Biagioli, Michael Garrett Hooper, Nicholas and Emily Hooper; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Marie Bonavia; a niece, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Johanna was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Michelle Hooper; one sister, Carrie M. Bonavia; and sister-in-law, Margaret Bonavia.
