Edwin S. Hopper, Sr., 85, Independence, MO passed away Jan. 30, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Sat., Feb. 4 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; entombment at Mt. Washington Cemetery Mausoleum with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Crossroads Hospice, 9237 Ward Pkwy., Kansas City, MO 64114 or Disabled American Veterans, 4801 E. Linwood Ave., Kansas City, MO 64128.
Edwin was born Feb. 12, 1926 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Manuel High & Vocational School where he majored as a machinist He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 and fought in Italy in WW II. Following his discharge from the service, he lived in California for 1 ½ years before returning to Independence. He married Lula M. Self in 1951. He retired from Wonder Bread/Hostess Cakes Co. in 1989. He was proud to be a lifelong member of the Bakery and Confectioners Union. He was a Baptist. Edwin was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Edwin was preceded in death by sisters Celia Forgey and Edna Svedja; brothers Troy Hopper and Ralph Hopper. He is survived by his wife of sixty years Lula Hopper, of the home; son Edwin S. Hopper, Jr.; daughters Deanna Hopper and Tammy Hopper; grandson Edwin J. Hopper, wife Courtney and their son Jase Edwin Hopper, all of Independence, MO; brother Richard Hopper, Savannah, GA; sisters Marge Hopper, Thelma Rogers, both of Independence, MO and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
