Louis Dale Howell, 87, of Lee’s Summit, MO peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11:00 a.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Village House Hospice, 400 NW Murray Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Dale was born on October 8, 1924 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was the son of former Independence, MO Police Chief, Louis R. Howell and wife Bess (Welch) Howell. Mr. Howell proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII for 2 ½ years in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. Dale was employed by AMOCO Oil Refinery in Sugar Creek, MO for 32 years before retiring in 1976. He and his wife Katie, were co-owners of State Beauty Supply of Johnson County, KS before they retired in 1993. He was a High Priest in the Community of Christ and was Pastor of the Blue Ridge and Pleasant Heights Congregations. Most recently, Dale was a member of the Woods Chapel Congregation. Mr. Howell is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Katie (Kelly) Howell; son Daniel Howell; daughter Karen Hall-Gist and husband Randal; granddaughter Jessica Howell.
