Pearl L. Huggett, Elder in the Community of Christ Church and wife of Evangelist Raymond Huggett, passed away March 10, 2012 at age 90. Pearl was born April 25, 1921 in Blackduck, Minnesota, the second daughter of Herbert and Percis Bosshardt. Her older sister, Eloise, died tragically in early childhood. Her brother, Larry Bosshardt, was born in 1929 and survives her. The family lived in various places in Minnesota, and Pearl completed high school at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota in 1941. After graduation, Pearl moved to Missouri and began a career in retail sales, moving again during WWII out west to San Francisco and then to Oregon. Pearl married Raymond Walter Huggett on March 7, 1947 and they have one child, Janis Rae. In 1956 Ray accepted appointment in the RLDS Church (now Community of Christ), and Pearl held an active supportive role in his ministry until their retirement. Pearl was an accomplished teacher, leader and singer in the church. They served appointments in British Columbia, Los Angeles, Independence and Central Missouri, Denver and Detroit. In 1983 Pearl and Ray retired to Battle Lake, Minnesota, where they enjoyed ten very happy years that included involvement in many community activities. During this time Pearl served two terms as Pastor of the Community of Christ congregation (formerly (RLDS) in Clitherall. Then, in 1993, they moved back to Independence and have been residents of The Groves ever since, greatly enjoying friendships and community life there as well. Pearl is survived by her loving husband, Raymond W. Huggett; daughter, Janis Rae Huggett; all of the Huggett, Bosshardt, Vick and Baldry families; and her many friends. She will be remembered as a woman of faith, dignity, loyalty and compassion. “Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in the time to come.” [Proverbs 31:25]
