Sultana Hughes

Sultana Hughes, 88, passed away on April, 21, 2013 at Menorah Hospital in Overland Park, KS. She was born January 25, 1925 to John and Mabel Farris in Boxmaya, Lebanon. In 1937, Sultana and her family moved to Springfield, MO. She graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School and took several college courses. She married Paul L. Hughes, Jr. in St. Agnes Church in Springfield, MO on June 23, 1951. While living in Springfield, Sultana gave birth to two sons. In 1954 she and her family moved to Kansas City, MO and shortly thereafter, settled in Independence, MO where she gave birth to her third son. She was married for 43 years until the death of her husband Paul. Sultana loved being a wife and mother and especially being a grandmother. She loved helping others and visiting with her friends. She never met a stranger. Sultana is survived by son Paul L. Hughes, III, his wife Jeanine, grandchildren Christopher and Alexa of Fremont, CA, son Jon Hughes of Sherman Oaks, CA and son William Hughes of Independence, MO. Cremation is planned with a memorial visitation to be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055.
