Ching Kut “Jimmy” Hung, 69, of Independence, MO died Monday, February 23, 2015. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26th at the chapel. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Jimmy was born on February 24th, 1945 in Yuxiang, China as one of two sons to Tsuan Sui Hung and Lee Lien Shun. Growing up in Hong Kong, he left school at the age of 13 and started working to support his family. In 1967 he took a cargo ship to the United States in search of a better life to start his family. Jimmy married his beloved wife, Chune Kwor “Alice” Tao, on October 31, 1969, after knowing each other since childhood. Jimmy returned to the states in 1972 with his family where he worked in the restaurant industry. Jimmy and Alice opened the China Pearl Restaurant in 1976 and became citizens in 1977. They opened their second restaurant, the Magic Wok, in 1981 where he worked until his retirement in 2007. Together, Jimmy and Alice raised five children encouraging them in strong work and moral ethics. The family remembers him as loyal, hard-working, a humorous story teller, a loving family man, and an avid fisherman.
He leaves behind his wife, Chune "Alice", of the home; children, Kee Hung of Denver, CO; Linna Hung (Deanna) of Liberty, MO; David Hung (Erica) of Kansas City, MO; Daniel Hung (JoAnn) of Manhattan, KS; Cindy Hung (Justin Wright) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Ashley, Isaiah, Asher, Daniella, Dylan, Brigham, and Nile Hung. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. Family encourages contributions to the Cholangiocarninoma Foundation.
