Joyce Diane Hurley, of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Services will be 10 am Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Chapel. Burial will take place in Mound Grove Cemetery. Joyce was born May 8, 1929 in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Ruth Shirey Kunkle and Benjamin Kunkle. She met the love of her life, Floyd Hurley, when she was eleven and Floyd was thirteen. They married on March 22, 1947 and were married 67 years until his death in August, 2014.Joyce worked as a waitress and later as a secretary. She was proud of her time as a volunteer at Independence Regional Hospital. She enjoyed spending time at their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, bird watching, crocheting, and aerobics class. She enjoyed cooking for her family and being visited by her children and grandchildren. Joyce is survived by daughters Marlena Ruth Sackewitz (Steve Fabac) and Victoria Elizabeth Stumpenhaus (Gary), all of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Heather Sackewitz Billingsley, Shannon Sackewitz (Jackie), Chris Stumpenhaus, and Justin Stumpenhaus (Ashley), Grain Valley, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Andrew Billingsley, Nicollette Wurtz, Alex Murino and Avery, Paige and Logan Stumpenhaus; three great-great grandchildren, Gracelyn Wurtz, Macey and Nicholas Murino. She is also survived by sister, Peggy Kunkle Trussell, sisters-in-laws, Bonnie Hurley Kunkle and Louise Hurley Yotz, and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her father and mother, in-laws Pearl and John Hurley, sister, Burgoyne Meek, and brother, Benjamin Kunkle.
