Merlin Hutsell

Merlin R. Hutsell, 84, Independence, MO passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at The Rosewood Health Center at the Groves.

Merlin was born June 1, 1927 in Springfield, MO the son of Howard Ival and Hettie (Riebold) Hutsell. He graduated from Springfield High School and received his bachelors degree from SMS in Springfield and his masters degree in education from CMSU in Warrensburg. He married Virginia (Stone-Rose) Hutsell on November 26, 1959 in Independence, MO. Merlin was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He taught 4th, 5th & 6th grades at the White Oak Elementary School for one year and 24 years at William Southern Elementary in Independence.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Morris.

Survivors include his loving wife Virginia of the home; son, Kevin (Christa) Hutsell; daughter, Brenda (Vince) Friedt all of Independence; grandchildren, Kendra and Derek Hutsell, and Cameron Friedt. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite charity. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO 64052. Burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
