Robert “Bob” was born April 12, l921, in Kansas City, Missouri, and departed this life at the age of 93 on Sunday, March 1, 2015. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 5th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO. Bob enlisted in the Navy and served his country from November 7, 1942 until his Honorable Discharge on December 17, 1945. He served in the Pacific War Zone on the battleship USS NEW JERSEY. He is remembered for his work ethic and exceptional knowledge in so many areas. As his Great-Grandson Bailey used to say “give it to Paw-Paw Bob….He can fix it!” Bob worked for General Electric before World War II and returned to G.E. upon his discharge. He retired from G.E. with 46 exemplary years of service. He and his wife, Roseann were transferred from Independence to New Orleans, LA, in the summer of 1967. While living in New Orleans, they spent almost every Saturday fishing for Redfish and Speckled Trout on their boat the “Miss. Rose”. One of his favorite memories was fishing with his daughter-in-law, Brenda on a cold, rainy day and catching more fish than they could fit into their ice chest. Bob retired in New Orleans in 1988. Afterwards, he and Roseann relocated to Independence to be closer to family. When Roseann became ill, they moved to Houston, Texas to be with their son and his family. After 58 years of marriage, Bob lost his beloved wife on October 6, 2005. He then moved back to Independence. He is survived by his son Robert W. Iles (Brenda); grandson, Robert A. Iles (Margaret); granddaughter, Lauren Iles-Parker (Brandon); great-grandsons, Robert B. “Bailey” Iles, Jonah Iles, Austin Parker; sister, Janet Iles; sister-in-law, Mary Angell; and niece, Kathy Curry (Dr. Howard). He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Elizabeth (Ruffey) Iles; and brother, William Iles. The family encourages contributions to Crossroads Hospice in his memory.
