Lester Allen Jackson, Jr., 76, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, November 29, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Chapel with burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Lester was born July 7, 1932 in Webbers Falls, OK to Lester Sr. and Roxie (Webb) Jackson. He graduated from East High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later completed barber college and opened his own shop, The Pro Shop. Lester was an active member and deacon of Rockwood Baptist Church, was a past commander of the VFW Post #1219, past master of the Masonic Lodge #319, past president of the Barbers Union, and was a scoutmaster for Troop #139. In his free time, Lester enjoyed playing golf and traveling and was an avid Chiefs fan.
Lester is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet L. Jackson; children: Gregory A. Jackson and his wife Paula and Cheryl L. Hayden and her husband Tim; siblings: Mona (John) Helm, Ruby (Richard) Fugate, Jack (Nancy) Jackson, and Michael (Jackie) Jackson; sister-in-law Beth Jackson; three grandchildren: Lindsey Engemann and husband Ryan, Mitchell Jackson, and Mary Jackson; great-granddaughter, Grace Anne Engemann; the ones he loved like family, Darrel and Gayle Firkins; and a host of extended family and friends. His parents, sister Rosemary Jackson, and brother John Jackson, preceded him in death.
