Obituary

James Eza Hill, 66, was born on September 21, 1959 in Independence, Missouri. He passed away on February 24, 2026. Throughout his life, ‘Jay’ as he preferred being called, was a kind and loving brother. Jay loved life. Jay loved people.

Jay completed his GED and joined the Navy in 1977. Serving as a CB, in one of the Navy’s specialized construction battalions. He was proud of his skills and thankful for the experience. After a stint in the Navy he used these skills in the machine operation/construction business, and made it a career. Jay worked for several crews in Texas as a foreman or lead in heavy equipment operations.

Jay liked fishing, hunting, going to events with old friends or hanging out with his family. He seemed to keep up with everyone. His easygoing style and penchant for hugs kept him surrounded with those who loved him. He loved his hats, kept his hair long what was left of it. He was forever optimistic.

Jay loved the outdoors. He took a caretaking job at a large greenhouse operation and became fast friends with the owner. He lived and worked there for a few years. In the country, he could drive tractors, work with machinery, enjoy nature. He enjoyed the summers there.

Jay ‘retired’ to small place in Independence where he was able to make new friends. He was close enough to see old friends too, within walking distance of most things he needed. Jay liked it there, he liked history, and was fairly sentimental. Jay was known for his engaging personality. He easily forged bonds with those around him.

Jay is survived by a loving family that includes his siblings, his brother Vint Hill, and his sister, Sara Currier.

He is also remembered fondly by his half-sisters, June and Linda, his nieces, Jody and Erin Hill, Angela Schumacher and Elizabeth Riley. He is fondly remembered by everyone that knew him. His family ties offering mutual support and affection for all throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. Hill and Ethel C. Hill. He also mourned the loss of his sister-in-law, Patricia Hill. The memories of these departed loved ones will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who remain.

As we remember James Eza Hill or Jay, we celebrate a life filled with adventure, camaraderie, and unwavering love. His spirit will continue to inspire everyone that knew him.
