Obituary

James Michael “Jim” Miller, 57, of Andover, Kansas, passed away surrounded by family and friends on September 2, 2026.

Jim was born on August 8, 1969, in Kansas City, Kansas, to John “Loren” and Linda Miller. From an early age, Jim developed a strong sense of service, adventure, and responsibility. He was active in the Boy Scouts and received the highest honor of Eagle Scout. Jim was also a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and all those experiences reflected his love of the outdoors and his commitment to helping others.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a plank owner of the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) aircraft carrier. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life.

Following his military service, Jim built a rewarding career as a structural engineer. He graduated from Wichita State University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and went on to spend many years working in the aerospace industry. He recently retired from Boeing where he was respected for his knowledge, dedication, and ability to solve even the most difficult problems.

Outside of work, Jim had a wide range of interests and talents. He loved nature, photography, kayaking, music, cooking and genealogy. He was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan, something he shared with his father. He was also considered “Mr. Fix-It”—the person people could count on when something needed to be repaired, figured out, or simply made better. He had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand. Jim deeply loved his family and would do anything to help his friends.

Jim will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, resourcefulness, sense of adventure, and unwavering willingness to help others. His presence brought strength and comfort to those around him, and he leaves behind a lifetime of memories treasured by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his children, August Ira Miller and Jason Miller; his parents, John “Loren” and Linda Miller; and his sister, Lori (Shawn) Windes. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and fellow veterans whose lives were touched by his friendship and generosity.

Jim’s life was one of service, curiosity, adventure, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
