James Theodore Scott

James Theodore "J.T." Scott, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Independence, Missouri at the age of 87. He was born on born on July 20, 1938, in Greenfield, Missouri to Ira Eugene Scott and Lucy Belle (Stark) Scott.

James graduated from Greenfield High School and enrolled into the United States Army. He spent several years serving his country. Afterwards, James devoted 36 years of his career to the gas company, now known as Spire, where he is remembered for his commitment and work ethic.

James was a devoted family man, often recalling the fondest memories spent boating, camping, fishing, and hunting at Stockton Lake, as well as the times enjoyed at Ne Ha Tankha. James was passionate about the outdoors, finding joy in traveling and exploring nature. A few of his most treasured vacations was his 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii and an Alaskan adventure with his late wife Carol.

James was not only a family man but also an active member of his community and a proud participant in various activities. He was a member of the Mic-O-Say Tribe and served as a boy scout leader for over 50 years, guiding and mentoring the youth around him. His hobbies and interests reflected his skills and passions; he enjoyed competing in black powder gun competitions and loved the camaraderie of playing poker with friends. His creativity extended to building toy planes and CB radios, and he took great pride in his flourishing garden, showcasing his green thumb and talent as a jack of many trades.

James had a genuinely quiet yet ornery personality, which endeared him to many. His proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his family. He cherished the time spent with loved ones and took great pride in nurturing those bonds.

James is survived by his daughter, Linda Henson (Bob); grandchildren, James Scott, Jacob Scott, Jessica Scott, Katlin Leonard, Danielle Henson and Robert Henson; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Alice; daughter-in-law, Diana Whittaker and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; son, Gene Scott; sister, Kathryn Avanelle and brother Kenneth Leroy.

A visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Saturday, November 1st at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Mo. His funeral service will begin at 2pm with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
