James Leroy “Jim” Walls Sr., a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, in Raytown, Missouri, at the age of 84. Jim was born to Thomas and Lois (Severe) Walls on June 5, 1941, in Grand River Township in Missouri.
Jim spent his life fostering connections to family, nature, and community. With these values at his core, Jim spent many seasons deer hunting with his son. As time went on, his love for the outdoors grew into a passion for camping, where he continued to embrace the beauty of God's creation and the sense of belonging it brought.
Jim had the pleasure of sharing 43yrs of his life with his beloved wife, Jo Ann. Together, they enjoyed savoring the beauty of nature and making memories with friends as part of the Coachman Camping Club. These cherished memories of camping will last a lifetime.
Jim dedicated his life to providing for his family as a truck driver, a profession he embraced with pride. He took great satisfaction in knowing that his work made a difference in the lives of others. His commitment to hard work was evident throughout his career, as Jim was known to always put his best foot forward.
Jim was a man of strong faith, which guided him throughout his life. Known to be "ornery," he had a vibrant personality and a warm heart, never failing to engage with those around him. He had a remarkable ability to make friends with everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression with his genuine character and charm.
His bravery and commitment extended beyond his civilian life. Jim served our country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, a testimony to his spirit of service and dedication to the values he held dear.
While Jim's accomplishments were numerous, he always regarded his family as his proudest achievement. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, having nurtured strong and meaningful relationships with his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; daughter, Patty Hoaglin (Denny); sons, Jim Walls Jr (Gwen); step-son, Tim Grother; step-daughter, Kim Hunter (Jerry); brother, Clyde Walls (Janice); 12 grandkids & 12 great grandkids and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his daughter and son-in-law Beverly & Jerry Gaulden; brother, Gene Walls; and parents, Thomas and Lois Walls
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. The visitation will be held on June 27, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM. Jim will be laid to rest at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri, with burial scheduled for 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to St. Judes or Ascend Hospice.
