Irene was born on July 31, 1929, in Hackensack, NJ, to parents Irene and William James. She graduated from Colorado Women’s College in Denver, CO, and later CSU in Ft. Collins, CO. She married Miles C. Brown on June 10, 1950 in Ft. Collins. They enjoyed raising four wonderful children together: Courtney, Steve, Holly, and Mike. After raising her children, Irene moved to Columbia, MO, and earned her masters degree at University of Missouri.
Irene married Wilbert Janke on July 8th, 1989 in Franklin, MO. They spent nearly 20 years together before Wilbert’s passing in May of 2008. Irene will be reunited with Wilbert in the Franklin Cemetery, just outside the church where they were married, and where her family and friends will gather to say farewell on July 2nd.
Irene will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She was a mother, artist, lover of animals, scientist, and historian. She helped to keep the past alive through her passion for antiques. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor and ability to see the bright side in difficult times. If we could remember all the things she tried to teach us about life, we would truly be blessed. We will always admire her continual pursuit of knowledge.
She is survived by her four children, Courtney Morris of Grain Valley, MO, Steve Brown of Gillette, WY, Holly Cunningham of Laramie, WY, Mike Brown of New Franklin, MO and their partners Jim, Nancy and Connie, her five grandchildren Jay Morris of Grain Valley, MO, Becky Durham of Independence, MO, Clay Cunningham of Laramie, WY, Buster Cunningham of Lincoln, NE, Nate Brown of New Franklin, MO, and their partners Marcia, Frank, Ashley, and Maureen. She was especially blessed with her four great grandchildren Madi and Shelby of Independence, MO and Miles and Zora of Laramie, WY. She will also be remembered by Wilbert’s family Laurel Wilson, Elaine Franklin, Paul and Jeff Janke.
