Jeannie Gayle Scalise, 65 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Centerpoint Medical Center.  Cremation is planned with a Funeral Mass to be held at 12:00 pm., Saturday, June 8, 2024 at St. Mark Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:30 am. Saturday at the church with a rosary to be recited at 11:30 am., prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Just Faith Ministries, of St. Mark Catholic Church or to Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute. Jeannie was born May 23, 1958 in Independence, MO to Allen and Wilma Jean (Scott) Peffer and lived in a variety of different states growing up including Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois and Georgia until returning to Independence in the early 2000’s. She had worked at St. Mark Catholic Church and EnCon Services as a bookkeeper for a number of years. She enjoyed traveling, especially by car to see the sites and experiencing fine foods along the way. She loved to vacation at Panama City and Gulf Shores growing up when she lived in Alabama. She enjoyed music and going to concerts and road trips especially to Red Rocks in Colorado. She loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. Jeannie was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and actively involved in the mission work at the church and volunteered her time at the local food pantries, cooking and serving meals to the community. She loved cooking and baking and made exceptional pies and cakes. Especially making the cookies for the annual St. Joseph table at church where she helped prepare and serve the spaghetti dinner with the profits going to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Jeannie was blessed with an incredibly loving extended family. She is survived by: her husband, Dean, mother Wilma Jean Peffer, sisters Jan Burkett and husband Kent, and Brenda Ryals and husband Gene, brother Bob Anderton and wife Gale, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Allen Peffer, second father Kenny Anderton, and sister, Becky Peffer.
