Jeannine Lane Hummel completed her life's journey on Saturday, September 6, and entered into the promise of new life.
Born on May 29, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, to Audran (Bud) and Florence Lane, Jeannine grew up in the Columbus area and graduated from Groveport High School. Over the years, she dedicated her talents in service to others, working as an elementary school secretary for the San Ramon School District (Danville, CA) and later as an administrator at Independence Regional Health Center.
Jeannine was a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful friend who found her greatest joy in family. Throughout her life-whether as a wife of 70 years, a mother to two boys, a Cub Scout den mother, PTA president, elementary school secretary, campfire leader at church reunions, or hospital administrator-she led by example, raising the bar through her strong work ethic, dedication, and passion for doing everything with excellence. Her sense of humor, deep love, and unwavering faith touched all who knew her and left each of us better for having shared in her life.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Greg Hummel (Ann) of Kansas City and Mike Hummel (Mary) of St. Louis; five granddaughters, Jennifer Carlisle (Dr. Jack), Amy Stechman (Brock), Sarah Hummel, Kristin Gill (Chad), and Erica Dyer (Zach); fifteen great-grandchildren; and her younger sister, Vera Buchman of Tulsa, OK. Jeannine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bishop Gene M. Hummel, and her older sister, Lavonne Myers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeannine's memory may be made to The Save Mount Diablo Fund (www.savemountdiablo.org). A private family graveside service will be held at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO.
