Jed William Malcolm

May 23, 1983 — Sep 21, 2026

Jed William Malcolm, 43, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away on September 21, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Jed was born on May 23, 1983, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert William Malcolm and Cari Agnes Malcolm. He was a 2001 graduate of Oak Grove High School.

On June 27, 2009, Jed married the love of his life, Amanda, and together they built a life centered around love, family, faith, laughter, and adventure. Over 17 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children: Chase, Jaxon, Paige, and Piper, who were without question some of Jed’s greatest accomplishments and greatest joys.

Jed worked as a sheet metal foreman for Western Specialty Contractors, where he was known for his exceptional work ethic and the tremendous pride he took in a job well done. No matter the jobsite or the task in front of him, Jed worked hard and expected the best from himself. But he also believed there was always room for a little fun. He loved making his coworkers laugh, bringing humor to the workday, and making even the hardest days a little more enjoyable for the people around him.

When he wasn’t working, Jed was rarely one to sit still. He loved attending Chiefs games, working out and staying fit, listening to just about every genre of music, traveling, riding his motorcycle and working with his hands. He was always up for an adventure and willing to try something new, especially if it meant making a memory with the people he loved.

Jed’s presence was felt in every room he walked into. He was loud, he was fun, and people naturally gravitated toward him. He had an ornery sense of humor, loved making people laugh, and had a way of making people feel seen. He was simply someone people wanted to be around, and if Jed was there, chances were you were going to have a good time.

More than anything, Jed loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted husband and father, and the life he and Amanda created together was his greatest legacy. Whether it was a big family adventure or simply the ordinary moments at home, Jed loved making memories with the people who meant the most to him.

Jed’s faith in Jesus became an especially powerful part of his life. Even through some of the hardest days he faced, his faith remained strong. On September 13, 2026, surrounded by more than 90 family members and friends, Jed was baptized, publicly declaring his faith in Jesus Christ. Amanda and their children followed him in baptism that same day—a moment their family will carry with them forever.

Jed faced the final chapter of his earthly life with tremendous courage, strength, humor, and faith. His journey touched more people than he likely ever realized and became a testimony of what it means to continue trusting God even when life does not unfold the way we hoped.

While his family will forever feel the absence of his physical presence, they find peace in knowing that Jed knew exactly where he was going. His faith was unshakable, and those who loved him know that on September 21, he was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior and reunited with the loved ones who went before him.

Jed is survived by his wife, Amanda; his children, Chase, Jaxon, Paige, and Piper; his stepfather, Shawn Stryker; his brother, Luke Malcolm (Tess) and niece, Mila; two aunts, one uncle, numerous cousins and countless extended family members and friends who loved him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert William Malcolm and Cari Agnes Malcolm; his grandfather, Robert Gene Malcolm; his grandparents, Donald Malcolm and Dorothy Lee Stewart; his uncles, Bryan Malcolm, Larry Malcolm and Jerry Campbell; and aunt, Camey Campbell.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Speaks Funeral Home, 18020 E. 39th St. S., Independence, Missouri. A celebration of Jed’s life will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Abundant Life Administration Building, 410 SW Persels Rd., Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The family would like to encourage you to wear Chiefs attire to the visitation on Sunday and they'd love to see the color blue on Monday at his Celebration.

Jed’s time on earth was far too short, but the impact of his life was not. He leaves behind four children who will carry pieces of their dad with them for the rest of their lives, a wife who will forever call him her person, and a legacy of faith, love, perseverance, laughter, hard work, and family.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."  -Isaiah 40:31
