Bruce Jeffery, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House. A visitation will be from 1-2:00 PM Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., with services beginning at 2:00 PM; burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
Bruce was born Feb. 9, 1926 in Kansas City, MO and adopted at birth by Edwin and Wilma Jeffery. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 17 and then served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he began working for Frisco Railroad. Later in life he worked with grain transportation for Bunge, Far-Mar-Co, and lastly Farmland Industries. Bruce was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church for more than 30 years. He enjoyed golf and playing bingo at the American Legion, but more than anything Bruce loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Opal (Mashburn) Jeffery; cousin Edwin Tracy; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
