Jerry E. Croucher, 82, of Sibley, Missouri Jerry E. Croucher passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 82 surrounded by friends and family.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 30, 1944, Jerry was the beloved son of Everett and Marcella Croucher. He was a graduate of Fort Osage High School Class of 1962 and graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Jerry married Karen Louise Burns in 1964. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a deeply patriotic man who loved his country and dedicated much of his life to public and community service. He worked for over 30 years at Armco Steel in Kansas City. He succumbed to a long battle with Parkinson’s that taught him the real meaning behind courage, patience and the importance of never giving up.

Jerry lived his life with precision, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. A true perfectionist, he paid close attention to every detail and held himself to the same high standards he expected of those around him. He believed that any task worth doing was worth doing well, and he approached his responsibilities with discipline, preparation, and quiet determination. His expectations could be demanding, but they came from a sincere desire to help others recognize their potential and take pride in their work. Jerry’s strong work ethic was matched by his integrity, dependability, and belief in personal responsibility. He taught by both his words and his example that success is earned through persistence, accountability, and a willingness to give one’s best effort, even when no one is watching. These values shaped the way he worked, served his community, and cared for his family. They also became one of his most meaningful legacies, reflected in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. In a particularly fitting tribute to the principles he modeled, each of Jerry’s sons and grandsons that are of age earned the rank of Eagle Scout. His youngest grandsons, Jase and Luke, are just now beginning their trail to Eagle. Through the lessons he taught, the standards he set, and the example he provided, Jerry’s influence will continue for generations.

Jerry’s commitment to excellence extended well beyond his family and work, shaping a lifetime of service to his community. He served as president of both the Fort Osage School Board and the Jaycees, where he brought the same high standards, discipline, and sense of responsibility that defined every part of his life. He also served as a Jackson County committeeman and as a member of the Buckner City Council, giving his time and leadership to the schools, organizations, and local government that supported his neighbors. Through these roles, Jerry worked to strengthen his community and help create a better future for the families who called it home. His dedication to civic leadership and public service earned him recognition in Who’s Who in America in 1981, an honor that reflected both the breadth of his involvement and the lasting impact of his contributions.

A passionate outdoorsman, Jerry felt most at home in the quiet and open spaces of his farm. He took great pride in caring for his cattle and found purpose in the steady rhythms and responsibilities of farm life. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, giving him opportunities to enjoy nature, test his patience and skill, and spend meaningful time outdoors. He especially loved bow hunting for whitetail deer, an activity that reflected his discipline, precision, and appreciation for the challenge of the hunt. Pheasant hunting was another special interest, and he valued the tradition and camaraderie that accompanied time spent in the field. Whether tending his cattle, sitting patiently in a deer stand, walking through pheasant country, or casting a line, Jerry found peace, satisfaction, and a lasting connection to the land he loved.

Jerry was a devoted father and grandfather whose family was at the center of his life. He made it a priority to be present and actively involved in his children’s interests, proudly coaching his daughter’s softball team and his sons’ baseball and football teams. For Jerry, coaching was about more than wins and losses; it was an opportunity to teach discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and the importance of always giving one’s best. He carried that same devotion into his role as a grandfather, taking great pride in each of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife Karen who fought tirelessly by Jerry’s side and took care of him through his illness and his children, Kim Nissanka (Don), Jeremy Croucher, and Sean Croucher (Summer), and by his six cherished grandchildren, Jasmine Wehmeyer (Turner), Lane Croucher, Carson Croucher, Caden Croucher, Jase Croucher, and Luke Croucher. His memory and the values he instilled will live on through them. He is also survived by his brother, John Croucher (Connie); his sister, Malinda Jones (Mike); his half-brother, Mark Croucher (Ginger); his stepbrother, Michael Long (Barb); his brother-in-law Ron Burns (Carol) and Karen’s aunt Janice Flandermeyer, along with extended family and friends who will remember his strength, guidance, and enduring commitment to those he loved especially his best buddy in the entire universe-Bill Jackson.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Everett, his mother Marcella, his stepmother Wanda and his mother-in-law Ethel Burns Baker.
