Jerry proudly earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, which laid the foundation for a fruitful career as a safety engineer for the federal government. His commitment to safety and engineering contributed positively to the communities he served. In addition to his professional endeavors, Jerry served honorably in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1960 to 1962, demonstrating his dedication to serving his country.

Beyond his career, Jerry was known for his vibrant hobbies and interests. He had a deep appreciation for jazz music, finding joy and solace in its rhythms and melodies. He was also an avid reader of religious and historical books. Jerry found great satisfaction in tending to both a flower and vegetable garden, where he nurtured plants with the same care and passion he applied to all aspects of his life.

He is also remembered by his nieces and nephews: Keelie Schrader, Kera Spore, Michael Pugh (Lynn Papenbrok), Dana Pugh, Lela Perez, Glenn Morris, Jacquelynne Morris, Krystalynne Morris, and Jessica Shifley, who carry forward his legacy of love, dedication, and creativity.

He is preceded in death by his father, Marion Jessie Laughlin; mother, Julia Marie Laughlin; and sister, Judith Spore. Each of these individuals played a vital role in shaping the man Jerry became, and he held their memories dear throughout his life.
