John Paul Close, age 66, passed away on August 27, 2023, in his hometown of Independence, Missouri. Born on August 16, 1957, in Independence, John was the son of the late John Thomas Close I and Betty Ann (Jacks) Close.

John was a dedicated and hardworking individual who retired on March 31, 2016, as the Lone Lead Cable Splicer for K.C. Power and Light after several decades of service. He was widely recognized for his expertise in his field and his unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout his career, John played an instrumental role in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to countless homes and businesses in the area.

Outside of work, fishing was John's true passion. He found solace and joy in spending time on the water with a fishing rod in hand. Always practicing catch and release, he admired the beauty of nature and cherished the moments spent reconnecting with it. John's love for fishing became a source of inspiration and relaxation.

Beyond his professional achievements and hobbies, John valued his relationships with family and friends. He was a devoted husband of 36 years to his beloved wife Danna Kay (Fansher) Close. Danna brought immense happiness into John's life as they shared many cherished moments together throughout their marriage.

In addition to Danna, John is survived by his stepson, Justin Lemka; mother-in-law, Betty Fansher; uncle and aunt, Larry and Judy Jacks; cousin, Ralph Trader; as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.  John is preceded by his father and mother, John and Betty Close, and son, John Thomas Close II.  

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made in John’s honor to the Sunshine Center in Independence, Missouri or Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.  Online Condolences can be left at speakschapel.com.
