John Edwin Rahija, born on September 10, 1972, in Kansas City, Kansas, departed this life on September 25, 2025, in Independence, Missouri while surrounded by his family. John lived a fulfilling life. He was known for his jovial personality, lighting up any room he entered, and for his strong-willed nature. John loved his family fiercely and cherished the time spent together.
John graduated from Turner High School before furthering his education at Emporia State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. His dedication to education and personal growth was a testament to his character and work ethic.
John dedicated much of his life to a career in various sales positions, where he thrived on the connections he made with people. His passion for building relationships extended beyond his professional life. He cherished Sunday family days, creating lasting memories through activities. Whether it was playing bingo or Uno, visiting the casinos, or cheering on his favorite sports teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, and most recently, the Milwaukee Brewers, John approached each moment with joy and enthusiasm. John was a proud father and extremely active in his son's sports; Any opportunity to referee sporting events or support his children was met with enthusiasm and dedication. He enjoyed refereeing many other sporting events throughout his life as well.
His interests extended beyond family activities; John had a profound love for music, particularly country, and was a devoted fan of Charlie Pride. He possessed a deep knowledge for a wide array of musical genres and enjoyed sharing it with others. He was a talented singer as well. John was very detail oriented. It was evident not only in his professional undertakings but also in his hobbies, such as maintaining a pristine yard.
John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories and will be missed greatly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Joyce Rahija; sons, Matthew and Connor; brother, Joseph Rahija; sister, Mary Rahija; sister-in-law, Shannon Merkel; brother-in-law, Tom Misiorowski Jr.; sister-in-law, Crystal Misiorowski; father-in-law, Tom Misiorowski Sr.; aunt, Shirley Kellett; numerous nieces and nephews and beloved furry companions, Maggie, Margo, Dolly and Abigail.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Rahija Sr. and Mary (Rhea) Rahija.
Visitation will be held on September 30, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel, located at 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO, 64055. A Mass will take place the following day, October 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church, located at 3736 S Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, MO, 64055. Following the Mass, John will be laid to rest in a burial service at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 12600 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS, 66109, at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society - Colon Cancer Research
