John Calvin
Reinmiller
May 14, 1941 — Sep 18, 2026
John Calvin Reinmiller, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on May 14th, 1941, in Neosho, Missouri, the son of a pastor.
John was a man of deep and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. Even after a major stroke left him sidelined in many ways for the last 30 years of his life, his faith and joy never wavered. John had a gift for conversation. His warmth, curiosity, and genuine willingness to share a story made people feel welcome and connected. He had a way of turning a simple conversation into a meaningful one, and through that gift, he became a friend to many.
When John was five years old, his father answered the call to join Gospel Missionary Union, and the family moved to Kansas City. There, they lived on a small farm right in the heart of the city. John treasured the many memories he made there, especially the time he spent helping his father tend the farm. Those early years were filled with experiences that remained precious to him throughout his life. John attended McCoy Elementary School and graduated from East High School in 1959.
After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force. When his brother, David, was drafted and sent overseas, John requested a transfer abroad in hopes of being stationed near him. That request took him to Morón Air Force Base in Seville, Spain, where he developed a deep appreciation for Spanish culture and learned to speak the language. With his brother stationed near Madrid, the two brothers took many memorable trips together throughout Europe over the next few years. John’s time in the Air Force was an important chapter in his life, reflecting his spirit of service, his adaptability, and, perhaps most importantly, his devotion to his family.
When John returned home from Spain, he rejoined his youth group at Centropolis Baptist Church. It was there that he noticed a young woman who quickly captured his heart. John began dating Marilynn Moore, and before long, he knew that she was the love of his life. He proposed, and she happily accepted. They were married on May 3, 1969, beginning a beautiful marriage that lasted 57 years. Through the years, the Lord blessed their marriage with a lifetime of love, memories, and shared experiences. In 1975, John and Marilynn joined Tri-City Baptist Church, where their faith and service continued to be an important part of their lives.
After completing his military service, John attended the police academy and began his career with the Kansas City Police Department. During his years with the KCPD, he served in many different positions and at several stations, but it was patrol work that he loved most. He enjoyed being out on the streets, meeting people, and helping those who were in need. For John, being a police officer was more than a job—it was an opportunity to serve others and to be a light for Jesus Christ. That brought him great fulfillment and joy.
John’s appreciation for Spanish culture and his ability to speak the language were also a great asset during his patrol work in Kansas City’s Spanish-speaking neighborhoods. He was able to connect with people in a way that might not otherwise have been possible. In 1989, John’s patrol car was struck by another vehicle, and the injuries he sustained eventually forced him to take an early retirement from the police force in 1993.
Outside of work, John enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to tinker and could often be found working on cars, figuring out how to fix something, or simply finding a way to make things work. He especially enjoyed serving at his church, Tri-City Baptist, whether coaching one of the various teams or driving the church bus. He loved being involved and helping wherever he was needed. John also enjoyed watching sports and enthusiastically cheering on his favorite teams. These everyday activities brought him great joy and gave him many opportunities to spend time with people he cared about.
John’s family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Phoenix, Terrace, Faith Home Health, and Sunterra Rehab. Your acts of love, compassionate care, and countless deeds of kindness meant so much to John and Marilynn. Your care and support were deeply appreciated, not only by John and Marilynn, but also by their dogs and cat!
John was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. and Wynona Reinmiller; his brother, David Livingston Reinmiller; his nephew, Eric Cooper; his brother-in-law, Patrick Stillman; and his mother- and father-in-law, Herb and Lillian Moore.
His legacy of love lives on through his beloved wife, Marilynn Reinmiller; his sisters, Mary Duff (George), Beulah Stillman, and Joann Cooper (George); and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His love and influence also live on through his church family and the many friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.
