Obituary

John Alan Scarlett, age 62, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2026.

He was born on January 29, 1964, to Sherry Louise Evilsizer and John Elmer Scarlett. John grew up in Independence and remained in the greater Kansas City area throughout his life. He graduated from Truman High School in 1982 and later took courses at Johnson County Community College. In 1985, he entered the Sheet Metal Apprentice Program and went on to work as a sheet metal worker with Local 2 for the next 35 years, retiring in 2020.

After retiring, John founded John’s Complete Tractor Service, where he proudly served many loyal clients over the next six years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking, watching sports, and spending time with his family. He loved playing softball and bowling, and he enjoyed traveling whenever he could.

John was deeply passionate about volunteering with Fishing for Freedom, dedicating the past 18 years to supporting his favorite charity. He was a devoted husband, father, and “papa.” He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, determination, strong work ethic, stubbornness, love for his family, and—of course—his spirited political debates.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kimberly (Greer) Scarlett; his daughters Rebecca Ann Willoughby (Todd) and Megan Alicia Wallace (Steven); his stepson Christopher Alan Myers (Lauren); and his stepdaughter Renee Nicole Hullett (Wendell). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Brandon, Joshua, Haley, William, Jaxon, Carter, Kimberly, and Harper; his nephew Jeffrey Scarlett (Amanda); many nieces and nephews; several cousins; and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherry and John; his brother Jefferey; his nephew Nick; his son Jason Andrew; and his stepson Brandon Joseph.

Those who knew and loved him will remember his ornery laugh, kind heart, devotion to his family, and the countless ways he made life better for others.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Fishing for Freedom.
