John Michael Van Camp

John Michael Van Camp, 79, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on July 18, 2023. John, fondly known as Johnny, was a resident of Silverado Memory Care Center with his bride of nearly 60 years, Joye Ann Williams Van Camp.

Johnny was born August 26, 1943, to Roland and Elizabeth Van Camp and lived his younger years in the Independence, MO area, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1961. He met the love of his life in high school, winning her over by helping her with her math homework (as he likes to brag). She will tell you that he grew on her as they were always seated next to each other on class seating charts. After graduation, Johnny attended Central Missouri State University. He married Joye on August 25, 1963, then began his long career with National Cash Register (later acquired by AT&T), retiring after 30+ years as a service manager.

During his lifetime, Johnny enjoyed participating in activities that often included his family and friends. While his family was young, the four of them traveled often in their RV, meeting up with friends in campgrounds across the United States. He was always up for a round of golf, riding on a boat, playing poker at the kitchen table or at a casino, or going on an adventure vacation with the family. In his free time, he would labor over horse racing stats and could tell you how the stock market was doing on any given day.

Johnny is survived by his wife Joye, sons Jason (Chris) and Joel (Tracy), brothers Jerry (Margie) and Jim (Linda), sister Linda (John), grandchildren Joshua, Justin, Payden (David), and Quinn, great-granddaughter Jane, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends who he adored with all his heart.

A Celebration of Johnny’s Life will be held Friday, August 4 from 5-8pm at Johnny’s Tavern in Lee’s Summit, MO. The family invites you to stop by to share a story or two of your memories with Johnny
