Bertha Johnson

June 14, 1920 — October 4, 2013

Bertha Eileen Johnson, 93, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, October 4th 2013. A visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 7th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8th at the chapel. Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.

Eileen was born June 14th 1920 in Everton, MO to Bland and Florence (Terrell) Burton as one of seven children. She graduated high school in Everton and lived in Miller, MO until moving to Independence in 1951. She worked for Electric Storage Battery Co. as their Payroll Clerk for 27 years before retirement in 1979. She was married to George H. Jones for 36 years before his passing in 1975. She later married Herschel E Sevedge, Jr. in 1977, who died in 1981. In 1982, Eileen married her third husband, Raymond F. Johnson, who died in 2002. She was a long time member of the Cara Chapter American Business Women Association (ABWA) and the Christ United Methodist Church of Independence. She was the church’s offering clerk and attended their United Methodist Women’s Group. Eileen enjoyed cooking for her family, crocheting, traveling, and fishing. She will be remembered for her feisty persona and her loving and caring heart.

She is survived by daughter, Donna Wright and husband Richard of Independence, MO; son, George Jones of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Denice England (Michael) of Blue Springs, MO; Monica Weathers of Lee’s Summit, MO; and step grandson, Ray Huffine; great grandchildren, Nathan, Derek and Tori England, and Morgan Weathers; brother, Marvin Burton (Opal) of Springfield, MO; brother, Carl Burton (Letha) of Independence, MO; sister, Joyce Armstrong of Raytown, MO; sister Fannie Dorman (Don) of Deepwater, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family encourages contributions to Hospice Angels Foundation; 401 Center Avenue, Bay City, MI 48708 in her name.
