Dorothea Wilhelmina Johnson passed away quietly December 17, 2011 at home. She was born September 11, 1918 in Wellington, MO to Siegfried T. and Meta (Koenig) Sehrt. She attended Harris, a rural school for 7 years and was a graduate of Wellington High School in 1935. She was employed by Nadler Style and Gift Shop and Schaberg Grocery in Wellington. She then was a Stock Record Clerk at Montgomery Ward in K.C. from 1943 to 1950. She was married to Elmer W Johnson on June 1, 1947 and made their home in Independence. While their children were in school she served in various offices in the Columbian School PTA and on the boards at both Wm. Chrisman Junior and Senior Highs. Dorothea served as a Den Mother for Troop 223 and served as a project leader in the Royal 4-H Club. She was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she had taught youth Sunday School, later attending the Better Be’s Class of which she held the position of Secretary /Treasurer for 18 years. She also was a member Presbyterian Women being secretary for 8 years. She retired from IRS and then became an Election Judge for 22 years. Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her parents, and a sister Edna who died in infancy. She is survived by her son Thomas W. Johnson (Jenny); daughters Jill Hatcher (Ed) and Emily Johnson of the home; grandson Matthew Johnson (Celine); and sister Margaret Nadler of Liberty. Her service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 21st at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant, Independence, with visitation being the hour preceding. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
