Edith “Edie” O. Johnson, 89, of Independence, MO went to Heaven to join her husband, Lee, on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Village House Hospice. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Eastside Baptist Church, 19901 E. State Rd 78, Independence, MO 64057. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church. Edie was born June 10, 1922 in Kansas City, MO to Alvin Grant and Cornelia Belle (Chilcote) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Lee Johnson on January 15, 1940, and shared 59 years of happiness together. Mrs. Johnson had worked for Lake City Munitions plant during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, and then at the “Old Woman in the Shoe” preschool at the Blue Ridge Mall. She was affectionately known by her church family as the “Hugger”. Edie is survived by her daughter Laura Lee Keeling and husband Aubrey; son Kenneth “Buz” Johnson and wife Ruby; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law Jean Allen and husband Ray; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee; and by all of her nine siblings.
