Ralph E. Johnson, 92, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be 2-4:00 PM, Sunday, March 2 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Services will be 10:00 AM, Monday at Rockwood Baptist Church; burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Ralph was born November 21, 1915 in Salisbury, MO to Ben and Ethyl Johnson. He was employed by the Kansas City School District as a custodian and building manager until his retirement in 1977. Ralph enjoyed camping, singing, and playing practical jokes. He served as President of the Service Employees Local #12 and was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church, however his grandchildren were most important in his life. Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife Katherine; step-son Gary Robert VanVliet; two sisters; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dorothy (VanVliet) Johnson; daughter Mae Covington and husband David; step-son C.A. VanVliet; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
