Donald K. Johnson, 87, Lee’s Summit, MO formerly of Independence, MO passed away April 13, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 at South Crysler Restoration Branch; cremation. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at the church. The family suggests contributions to John Knox Village Hospice.
Don was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Scottsdale, AZ and grew up in Long Beach, CA. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1937 �" 1945 including WW II. He came to Independence in 1950. He worked for the Jackson County Juvenile Court for over thirty years and retired in 1987. He also worked for Sears, and after retirement, worked as a courier for Union Bank and Lab Corp. He was a member of the church where he served as a Deacon and taught adult Sunday school classes.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years Marilyn Johnson, of the home; son Donald K. Johnson, Jr. and wife Pat, Independence, MO; daughters Laurie Hale and husband Randy, Raymore, MO; Julia David and husband Manuel, Overland Park, KS; Catherine Woods and husband Derek, Lee’s Summit, MO; sister Catherine Fillhart and husband Ed, brother Robert E. Johnson and wife Janet, all of CA; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
