Vernon Johnson

July 9, 1937 — April 13, 2013

Vernon Duane Johnson went home to his Heavenly Father on April 13, 2013. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Johnson of Liberty, Missouri and Duanita “Missy” Johnson of Kansas City, Mo. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Carley Waggener, and Cameron Kaufman. He will be missed by cousins, nephews, niece and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Clifford Johnson and Mildred (Hall) Johnson, and his brother, Donald Eugene Johnson. Duane was born on July 9, 1937 in Independence, Missouri. He graduated from Fort Osage High School. In 2012, he was honored as the first inductee into the Fort Osage Hall of Honor for his outstanding athletic achievements. He attended William Jewell College and then was drafted in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Kansas City Power & Light for 32 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1994. He moved to his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. The family would like to thank Garden Valley Manor and Crossroads Hospice for the care provided in the last days of his life. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Suburban Chapel, with burial at Mound Grove Cemetery.
