Elizabeth “Betty” Irene (Crawford) Jones, 93, died in the early hours of March 3, 2013. A visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m Wednesday, March 6th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street, Independence. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Betty was born January 31, 1920 in Independence, Missouri, the first child of Olive and Boyd Crawford. She was a life-long resident of Independence. Throughout her 93 years, she was active in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Community of Christ churches. Betty married Wynne Davies Jones in 1938 and celebrated 63 years of marriage before Wynne’s passing in 2001. Betty’s main focus was always on her family, but she also managed a successful work life, holding jobs at a variety of places including: the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital, the medical office of Dr. Edward Holton, the Lake City and Pratt and Whitney plants (during World War II), and Pace School Bus Company. In addition to being an active member of the Gudgell Park Community of Christ Church, Betty was committed to community involvement. At various times in her life, she was very active in the American Field Service (hosting two foreign exchange students), Cub Scouting, PTA organizations, and other school and church activities. Betty enjoyed traveling (across the US, South America, and in Europe), Bible studies, and involvement in the musical, sporting, and extracurricular events of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived in life by: Sharon Winter and husband Damon of Bates City, MO; Pete Jones and wife Nancy of Brentwood, TN; Sheldon Jones and wife Shelley of West Chester, PA; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren
