Richard "Al" Allen Jones Jr.
June 4, 1957 — October 29, 2022
Richard “Al” Allen Jones Jr., 65, of Independence, Missouri passed away, Saturday, October 29, 2022, after a lengthy battle with kidney cancer.
Al was born June 4, 1957 to Richard and Jeanine Jones and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1975. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University for a year before moving back home to Independence. Al worked a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime including a truck loader, forklift driver, window installer and ended his career as the “go-to-guy” at Hy-Vee in the frozen department.
Al was a huge sports fan; however, his heart was always in favor of the Missouri Tigers, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, and cracking open a cold one while at the family cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. Al also enjoyed going to Nebraska to pheasant hunt with his friends and family. Most of all, Al loved his grandchildren, spending time with his family and watching his two boys play sports. He loved nothing more than to watch them play every weekend whether it was baseball, football, or basketball. He spent many weekends traveling to their sporting events, and he was their number one fan. Al was a very generous man and was always the first to offer a helping hand while never asking for anything in return. He worked hard to provide for his family, whom he loved dearly.
He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Janet Jones; two sons: Kyle Jones and Parker (Jordan) Jones; his five grandchildren: Arabella, Caroline, Hayes, Landon, and Brynlee. Al was also survived by his parents Richard and Jeanine Jones; his sister Janet Hamilton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO, 64055, 816-373-3600. A funeral service will begin following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral chapel on Thursday with burial at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, Independence, MO.
