Independence

Jose Dizon Montoya, affectionately known as Joe, was born on September 7, 1947, in the vibrant islands of the Philippines. After a life marked by quiet resilience and deep kindness, he departed this world on June 6, 2025, in the serene embrace of Trapper Creek, Alaska.

Known for his gentle spirit, Joe was a dedicated filter manufacturer in the aviation industry until his early retirement. This pivotal moment not only marked the end of a fulfilling career but also the beginning of new adventures with his beloved wife, Carmelita. Together, they explored the world, weaving a tapestry of memories filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments alongside their life-long friends. Joe's thirst for adventure was matched only by his deep devotion to Carmelita, whose love was a guiding beacon in his life.

Joe was a man of few words, yet his soft-spoken nature resonated deeply with those fortunate enough to know him. He possessed a compassionate heart that extended warmth to everyone around him. His easygoing demeanor brought peace to many, and his kindness was a balm in a chaotic world. Those who encountered Joe would often remark on his ability to listen fully, offering solace and understanding without the need for grand statements or gestures.

Despite his shyness, Joe's presence was magnetic. His laughter could light up a room, and his gentle smile had the power to instantly put others at ease. He carried a unique serenity within him, a reflection of his love for the simplicity of life and the profound connections he nurtured with family and friends.

As his journey in this world concluded, Joe legacy of love, kindness, and adventure lives on through the love of his life and wife, Carmelita Montoya; his stepdaughter, Robin Pearce (Steve); his siblings, Federico Montoya and Angelina D. Montoya; his grandchildren, Ashley Hawyard, Callie Holmes, and Nathaniel Pearce; and his great-grandchildren, Jade Ault and Braylinn Hayward. His passing was preceded by his parents, Tomas and Angelina Montoya, and his siblings, Sonia Salac, Tomas Montoya Jr., and Pedro Montoya.

A graveside service will be held to honor Joe’s life on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 11 am at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
