Joyce Earline Mayfield passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025. Joyce was born on June 8, 1935 in Lathrop, Missouri.
She graduated William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri.
She married her late husband, Delbert Wayne Mayfield, and had a very happy marriage of sixty plus years before his death in 2020. Although they never had children of their own, they did have three young men in their lives whom they called “their boys”, Larry Dobbs, Stanley Dobbs and Steven Dobbs. All three lived at the original Drumm Farm and Joyce and her late husband looked upon them as their own.
Joyce spent her career at J C Pennys as a bookkeeper, auditor and office manager.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Independence, Missouri. She and her late husband were very active in the church and especially as youth group leaders where she had an impact on so very many young lives.
Joyce is not survived by any direct family, but instead by the “boys”.
She was preceded in Death by her husband and her parents.
A very casual Celebration of Life will be held from 11am-12pm on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Speaks Funeral Chapel on E. 39th Street in Independence, Missouri. At her request, there will not be a graveside service at the Lathrop Cemetery in Lathrop, Missouri. Instead, she has asked that once she and Delbert are interred, that everyone visit her there.
In lieu of flowers, Joyce requests that a contribution be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her name.
