Judy Kay Vargas, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away on August 15, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, at the age of 72. Born on July 18, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, to George Nelson Davis and Jewell Dean (Deckard) Davis, Judy lived a life marked by her caring and affectionate nature.
A graduate of East High School in Kansas City, Judy's early career began in the food service industry at the Muehlebach Hotel, where she met her future husband, Gilbert Vargas. Their love story blossomed there, leading to their marriage in 1970. Judy's commitment to her family and her work as a certified nursing assistant reflected her nurturing spirit. She dedicated herself to providing care and comfort to those in need, earning the admiration and respect of her colleagues and patients alike.
Judy was not only a devoted professional but also a passionate gardener. She took great joy in tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, a hobby that brought her peace and beauty before losing her mobility. Her culinary skills were cherished by all who knew her, particularly her signature lasagna and banana bread, which became family favorites.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Gilbert Vargas, and her sons, Chris Vargas and Michael Vargas and his wife, Veronica Vargas. She is preceded in death by her father, George Nelson Davis, and her mother, Jewell Dean Davis.
Her family will honor her memory at a graveside service on August 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
