Justin Anthony Zander, born on March 17, 1994, in Independence, Missouri, passed away at the age of 31 on February 10, 2026, in his hometown. Justin was born to Shawn Zander and Tonya Vaughn.
Growing up in Independence, Justin attended William Chrisman High School but made the brave decision to leave school early to care for his mother. Later, he pursued and obtained his GED, reflecting his determination and resilience.
Each year Justin eagerly looked forward to his work at Worlds of Fun, where he got to participate in the Halloween Haunt. He enjoyed the thrill of the scares and all the mystery that came with it, along with the cherished friendships with other staff members.
Justin was a fan of street car racing, and playing in local pool leagues with his brother, where his competitive spirit flourished. Rockfest was another annual event Justin loved attending, enjoying the atmosphere and the performances. Furthermore, he valued the moments spent with his family, cherishing the bonds that tied them together.
As a little boy Justin enjoyed spending time at his great-grandmother's house. He called her his "Nanny" and he was her "all american boy". He'd run around the house wearing his cowboy hat and waving his American flag around swiftly which would cause him to giggle so hard it would light up the room. Justin's presence will be missed immensely by all who came to know and love him.
Justin is survived by his brother, Nick Etheridge; grandmother, Earlene McPherson and her husband Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Shawn Zander; mother, Tonya Vaughn; and uncle, Jason McPherson.
