Theresa B. “Mama T” Kearney, 87 of Independence, MO, passed away, Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Rosewood Health Center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. There will be a prayer service Thursday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Carson-Speaks Chapel followed by visitation from 6 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculota Manor, 2135 Manor Way, Liberty, MO 64068 or to Children’s Mercy Hospital 2401 Gillham Rd., Kansas City, MO 64108.
Theresa was born May 20, 1920 in Ransom, KS to Adam and Agnes (Good) Papst. Prior to her marriage to Clarence Harold Kearney, Theresa was employed by Country Club Dairy. She spent the rest of her life as a homemaker, always putting her family before herself without complaint. She enjoyed cooking and made the most delectable cookies, pies and cakes. She loved her faith, chocolate, holidays, flowers and an occasional White Russian. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society for many years. During the renovation of St. Mary’s Church, she and Clarence donated a stained glass window in their family’s honor. Theresa will be deeply missed by her husband of 65 years, and her twelve children; five daughters and their spouses; Betty Harralson Unrein, Overland Park, KS, Donna Pitman, Barbara Kearney, and Rita O’Donnell (Barney) all of Independence, MO, Virginia Parker (Dennis) of Lee’s Summit, MO; seven sons and their spouses, John Kearney and Brian Kearney (Peggy) of Dallas, TX, Charles Kearney (Shirley) of Kansas City, MO, Bob Kearney (Peggy) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Greg Kearney (Georgia) and Richard Kearney of Independence, MO, Mark Kearney and fiancée Kerry Larson of Peculiar, MO; 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.
