Dorthy was born on January 13, 1922, in Independence to Carl H. and Sarah E. (Ketchum) Brown. She graduated from Blue Springs High School in the class of 1940. She met John D. Kelley on the beach at Winwood Lake, and they married in 1946. To this union were born two daughters. Dorthy worked for Pratt & Whitney, Lake City Ammunitions Plant, had a career as an electronics inspector for Bendix for 21 years, and later worked for the U.S. Government in Defense Mapping. She was a member of Buckner Restoration Branch. Dorthy will be remembered for her many talents: writing, painting, dancing, playing the organ, and gardening. She also enjoyed many trips to the lake with her family, and riding her motorcycle across the country. She never met a stranger, and was dearly loved by so many.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Gabriel (Jim), Patricia Kelley (Phil Edmoundson); grandchildren, Gavin Mouse (Rose Habib), Kelley Ruppert (Brandon), and Karen Hays (Bart); great-grandchildren, Ethan and Noah Ruppert, and Delson and Mosely Hays; two sisters, Carmetta Sevy and Jean Johansen; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 52 years, John; and brother, Carl.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Buckner Restoration Branch in memory of Dorthy. Online condolences at www.speakschapel.com (Arr: Speaks Suburban Chapel 816-373-3600)
