Wendell Kelley

Wendell O. Kelley, 89, Independence, MO died Monday, December 20, 2010. Wendell was born Nov. 2, 1921 in Junction City, KS to Frank and Calla Kelley. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Wendell married Helen Johnson on Sept. 25, 1942. He was a Veterinarian for 50 years at his practice, Town and Country Pet Hospital. He was an Evangelist in the Community of Christ Church and served the church throughout his life including pastoring several congregations. Wendell was preceded in death by his wife Helen Kelley and brother Ormond Kelley. He is survived by three daughters: Jeanne Francis and husband Ward, Susan Wiemann, and Carolyn Bailey and husband Bruce, all of Independence; brother Frank Kelley and wife Shirley of Independence; sister Mary Adams of Wichita, KS; grandchildren: Joel Francis and wife Rachel, Steven Bailey, Julia Parris and husband Able, Kevin Wiemann, Katie Bailey, Timothy Bailey, Brian Wiemann; and great-granddaughter Shelby Bailey.
Memorial services will be at 7:00 PM Thursday, December 23, 2010 at College Park Community of Christ, 1021 W. College, Independence. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 6:00 PM at the church. A private graveside service will be held at Mound Grove Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made for Camp Doniphan, in care of the family, so they may purchase something for the camp in Wendell's memory.
