Roy William “Tex” Kellis, 90 of Independence, MO passed away, Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Noland Road Baptist Church 4505 S. Noland Rd. Independence, MO 64055. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Noland Road Baptist Church. Roy was born August 11, 1922 in Franklin, KY to Homer and Loreen (Niccols) Kellis. He grew up and graduated from Pasadena High School in Pasadena, TX in 1940. He worked for a number of years for Sears Roebuck and Company until he retired in 1987 as a mail order clerk. He enjoyed camping, traveling and spreading the word of the Lord. He was an active member of the Noland Road Baptist Church. He was indeed a man of God who loved and cared for his family especially his wife. He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII as a Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class assigned to the USS Detroit and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Martha of the home; his children, Steve Kellis and his wife Denise and, Douglas Kellis all of Independence, MO, Neil Kellis and his wife Becky of Blue Springs, MO, Reneé Buchan and husband Jack of Independence, MO and Annette Leathers and husband Dan of Belton, MO; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
